The Sabbath

These are the appointed feasts of the Lord that you shall proclaim as holy convocations; they are my appointed feasts. “Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work. It is a Sabbath to the Lord in all your dwelling places.” Leviticus 23:2-3

The Sabbath, from the beginning, has been a sign between Yahweh and His people. Why is it so important to Him? Why should we keep it? How do we keep it? What does it mean to profane His Sabbaths?

In this video series, Rabbi Steve Berkson walks you through Sabbath scriptures in context and explains what you need to know about the Biblical Sabbath.

“You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you.” Exodus 31:13

“And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord,
    to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord,
    and to be his servants,
everyone who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it,
    and holds fast my covenant—
these I will bring to my holy mountain,
    and make them joyful in my house of prayer;
their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
    will be accepted on my altar;
for my house shall be called a house of prayer
    for all peoples.”
The Lord God,
    who gathers the outcasts of Israel, declares,
“I will gather yet others to him
    besides those already gathered.” Isaiah 56:6-8

“Moreover, I gave them my Sabbaths, as a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.” Ezekiel 20:12

“And keep my Sabbaths holy that they may be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.” Ezekiel 20:20
